Henshin’s Rebirth Blog Site

The Mini WordCamp held at Arturo’s Bed and Dine was a success! I just arrived from the event and I can’t wait ’till tomorrow to post how it went. I don’t have to state allover again what WordCamp was all about since I already posted that Davao City will have a mini camp a few weeks ago.

Four of my Eversun office mates (Aice, Dan, Cesar and Dane-My GF) went there to participate as we consider this event as a privilege since the main WordCamp will be held in Manila on September 6. A few minutes after we arrived, the event started… with a dinner. The food there was really delicious and I recommend that place. Food was tasty and being served with class. After dinner the event was being hosted by Blogie Robillo. He is a popular blogger and was one of the organizers as well for this event especially in Davao(Thanks Blogie!). Now the presentation of some popular blogs were being shown to us.

Here was the funny thing, after some bloggers presented their sites, the 20 early birds were given a WordCamp bag giveaways and it includes the 5 of us. As we claimed our prize, each of us took a photo with an ‘unknown’ guy(only for the 4 of us excluding Cesar). Then the ‘unknown’ guy stood in front and talked about Wordpress and the four of us were puzzled who he was. It was then that we realized that it was Matt Mullenweg, the founding developer of Wordpress! Sigh… We have to admit, we’ve been using Wordpress for quite a long time but we never knew who developed it.-_- We were shocked that we just took a photo with one of the most brilliant minds! Now that we knew, we were really glad and felt honored to meet him. He was so approachable and none of us were intimidated. Still shocked, we continued to listened to his speech and after that, local bloggers where given an opportunity to show their sites and gave a little information about it. By the way a little spoiler though, he announced that Wordpress 2.7 will be released around the month of November with new additional features. As the program comes to an end, we took more photos with Matt and chat with him for a while. It was priceless!

To sum it up, the word ‘Mini’ in Mini WordCamp was not felt by the participants since we really enjoyed that event. I think we were more fortunate since we were not that many and everybody has the chance to get up close with Blogie and Matt. The main event in Manila will definitely be crowded so everybody might not have the chance to meet and greet Blogie and Matt personally.
